What this means

Your effective rate = total fees ÷ total volume. Anything above 3.0% in a card-present-heavy business is high; over 3.5% in card-not-present-heavy is high. Restaurants typically run 2.4–2.9% with the right processor.

The savings range assumes you switch to an interchange-plus or true flat-rate processor with transparent pricing. Avoid tiered or "qualified/non-qualified" pricing — that's where most overcharging happens.

How it works

What each input does

We split your monthly volume across in-person, online, and keyed-in transactions and apply blended rates that reflect interchange-plus pricing for each. Add your statement fee and we compute your true effective rate.

For card-present (restaurants, retail), 2.3–2.7% is excellent. For e-commerce, 2.7–3.0% is excellent. Anything above 3.5% means you should be shopping.
